You will often be asked to reflect on your learning, and to think about strategies to continue your growth as a learner. Furthermore, you will be encouraged to develop the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations (OCSGEs) that are becoming increasingly important in the modern world.
In this course, you will be invited to be an active participant in your learning. SPH4U - PHYSICS (GRADE 12)
This course enables students to deepen their understanding of physics concepts and theories. Students will continue their exploration of energy transformations and the forces that affect motion, and will investigate electrical, gravitational, and magnetic fields and electromagnetic radiation. Students will also explore the wave nature of light, quantum mechanics, and special relativity. They will further develop their scientific investigation skills, learning, for example, how to analyze, qualitatively and quantitatively, data related to a variety of physics concepts and principles. Students will also consider the impact of technological applications of physics on society and the environment.

Sch3U - PHYSICS (GRADE 11)
Welcome to Grade 11 Chemistry, where you will acquire the skills to thrive in a science-based world. Chemistry is everywhere in our lives. We live so immersed in chemistry we may not even notice it is there…from the products we use first thing in the morning to get us ready for the day, to the materials that make up our vehicles, roads and buildings. When we explore the components of our cell phones and even to the food we eat there is chemistry and chemical reactions everywhere. Just as chemistry is central in how we live, chemistry has also been referred to as the central science (Balaban & Klein 2006, Brown & LeMay, 2018, Comte, 1830). Chemistry concepts connect the physical sciences (like physics and mathematics) to the biological sciences (like earth science and medicine), if you are interested in science a solid foundation in chemistry is essential.
When we study chemistry in a Catholic school we do so with a belief that connection is at the core of who we are and who God is. In the connections and bonds of chemistry we see echoes of God and as we learn about how to use these connections we hear a call to community and solidarity. The words of our opening prayer remind us that “Everything is connected. Concern for the environment thus needs to be joined to a sincere love for our fellow human beings and an unwavering commitment to resolving the problems of society.” (Laudato Si 91).
In this course, you will engage in a broad spectrum of learning opportunities. You will also be an active participant in your learning. You will often be asked to reflect on your learning, and to think about strategies to continue your growth as a learner. Furthermore, you will be encouraged to develop the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations (OCSGEs) that are becoming increasingly important in the modern world. To frame this journey in chemistry, the central science, we would like you to reflect on this question now and throughout the course: How can an understanding of chemistry help humans take care of one another and creation?
